Hi! I'm Monica Lee. I’m a mom of one EUSD students, an educator, an artist, and a member of the Encinitas Union School District Board of Trustees.

Before joining the Board, I spent more than 18 years teaching, including 14 years as a high school art teacher and several years teaching elementary art here in EUSD. I hold a Master’s degree in Education from UC Santa Barbara.

Teaching gave me a front-row view of how differently children learn. Some thrive academically, some discover their confidence through art, music, athletics or hands-on learning, and others need more time and support. That experience shaped a belief I still bring to every Board decision: there is no single approach that works for every child.

My family moved to Encinitas after the pandemic reinforced for me just how important strong neighborhood public schools are. I became deeply involved in our schools first as a parent and teacher, and ultimately decided to run for School Board.

Today, serving on the Board is one of the most meaningful ways I can contribute to our community. Education isn't a stepping stone into politics for me, schools are my passion.

I believe children deserve an academically strong education that also preserves the things that make childhood rich: great teachers, art, music, PE, hands-on learning, creativity, play, meaningful relationships, and time away from screens.

As a trustee, I will continue listening to families and teachers, asking difficult questions, and advocating for decisions that put students first.
